Chelsea star set to be rewarded with new deal at Stamford Bridge

The Daily Mail certainly has Chelsea fans nodding in agreement here in the Football Transfer Tavern.

The reason for this is the claim that full back Cesar Azpilicueta - or 'Dave' depending on your level of pronunciation - is set to be offered a new deal by the Blues.

After having an utterly outstanding season, the natural right back, who has ousted left back Ashley Cole from the starting eleven is set to be offered a deal that will see him earn around £70,000-a-week and tie him down to the west London club for the foreseeable future.

As our punters note, after his season, the Spaniard fully deserves this, and manager Jose Mourinho has even proclaimed if he had eleven Azpi's, his side would lift the Champions League. Quite frankly, our Blues fans would take one Petr Cech at this moment in time!

This of course places the future of Cole in huge doubt with his deal set to expire in the summer, and Chelsea are still chasing another left back with Southampton's Luke Shaw linked heavily to the club.
